Effective Oral Communication
Semester 1: Belonging Presentation
Reflection: This project required me to come up with a speech that described the groups in my life that I belonged to and how that corresponded to who I am today. By completing this project, I was able to clearly communicate my thoughts and feelings on the groups that are a large part of my life, as well as have consistent and effective use of the English language and maintain proper form during the speech. I was also able to learn about and practice projecting my voice, neutral stance, and enunciation. This speech enabled me to share the particular groups of people in my life that make up who I am, as well as practice proper speech formats that I will need to master for later on in life. After presenting my speech, I understand that I can still improve upon my speech formats and would thus like to improve upon projecting my voice, speaking slower, and articulation in my speech so that those who I am presenting to can hear and understand me. In order to improve this skill and other speech techniques for the future, I will practice speaking in front of others repeatedly and learn to calm myself down during speeches so I can control my fear and remain understandable. I will also practice a speech many times beforehand so I will know the speech front and back, and understand that even if I mess up, if I understand the topic enough and stay calm, I can still pull the rest of the presentation together.

Semester 2: Time Travel Activity: Psychology BEhind the Events of Tiananmen Square
Reflection: After learning about the events of Tiananmen Square in the 1980s, this project required that my group and I construct a creative presentation explaining the psychology of people in China in the early 1980s. However, though the beginning of our presentation focused on this idea, our skit and later slides in the presentation focused on the actual events of Tiananmen Square. My group members and I used the skill of effective oral communication by using the script that we had pre-written while portraying emotion and facts throughout the presentation. By reading off of scripts that used proper English language, grammar, and effectively moving words, we were able to construct an innovative presentation to properly teach our classmates the events of Tiananmen Square. I was able to effectively communicate to my class the events of Tiananmen Square in an original, understandable presentation and convey emotion through the spoken word in the form of a script/skit. I was also able to clearly enunciate the sentences I was to say and project my voice for all of my classmates to hear. I conducted myself in a professional manner (or at least as professional as I could be in this skit) to show that I was confident with the subject that I was teaching and could be trusted with the information I was communicating. In the future, I hope to be able to convey more emotion through my voice and effectively explain the events of Tiananmen Square or any other topic with enthusiasm, proper hand movements, and professionalism to assure that my point gets across and my classmates can understand me. In order to accomplish this goal in the future, I plan to be confident in the subject that I am explaining so I can focus on the delivery of the script and assure that my information gets across in an entertaining and understandable manner.
